Notre Dame de Paris is Scheduled to Open in Two Years

Following a statement by the French Ministry of Culture, Notre Dame de Paris is scheduled to open for services and visits in 2024. The work to reinforce and protect Notre Dame was completed last fall and the restoration began this winter.

The work is progressing very quickly, according to plan and schedule. Abdul-Malak said 2024 will be the year when much of the restoration work will be completed and the cathedral will be open for worship and the public.

The April fire that occurred on the cathedral grounds was in April 2019. The roof collapsed where the steeple fell, and the wooden frame of the roof was completely destroyed. At the time of the fire, various options for refurbishing the roof and spire were discussed, but then those plans were abandoned. The restorers are now restoring the structure to its original appearance.
