DIY Costume Squid Recreation (Low-cost and Easy in 10 Steps)

I started by painting a mask I found for 98 cents at the store with Blackguard Curly paint, I did two coats to make sure everything was evenly coated.

After it dried, I took the tulle yarn and folded it like this, then put the mask on the bottom and started gluing the borders inside the mask, be sure to press the material as you go so it’s flat, this will create the illusion of the material used on the original masks.

After you finish gluing all over the mask, trim off the excess tool, I decided to cover these holes, except for the breathing holes, with black felt.

With the remaining tool I trimmed a piece to add to the eyes for extra dimension, using a trimmer I cut two thin strips of foam and glued them onto the mask.

For the shape of the mask I made a template using a cricut machine and vinyl, you can easily do this with painter’s tape as well.

I used white acrylic paint and a sponge to paint over the pattern, if you don’t want to spend a lot of money on a jumpsuit, a great affordable option is to wear the hoodie with matching sweatpants or leggings, you can complete it with black boots, gloves and a belt to complete the look. I spent less than five dollars, and I love how it turned out, to create a one-piece costume like the contestants, I took a green white and green felt sweatshirt and a white shirt.

I started by trimming a piece of green felt to make a patch for a sweatshirt. then to make the numbers, I used iron-on vinyl with a qriket machine. you can also replace this by drawing the numbers on white felt and cutting them out, or you can also buy patches with numbers and apply them with an iron-on.

After ironing the vinyl onto the felt, I glued the patch onto the sweater. To add more detail, I cut two pieces of white felt and attached them to the sleeves.

I made a matching shirt that the contestants wear out of green vinyl and glued it onto this white shirt. This costume can be completed with sweatpants and white pumps shoes.

Finally, I made a card as a prop for this costume, using brown cardboard and a black marker, you can just cut it out as a rectangle and draw three shapes on it.
