Design Layers conference by ReadymagFeatured
Join a free conference with five design aces—Abb-d Tayo of Driftime, Verònica Fuerte of Hey studio, Samar Maakaroun, a Pentagram partner, Yah-Leng Yu of Foreign Policy, and Cat How of How&How—on October 10. They’ll speak about balancing creativity, business goals, and ethics in design, and inevitable trade-offs.

Open Calls

2024 Booooooom Illustration Awards (International)
Artists and illustrators are eligible for this inaugural award worth $2,500 in cash prizes. Five winners and 20 shortlisted illustrators will be featured in a special publication, and the first entry is free to all.
Deadline: 11:59 p.m. PST on October 4, 2024.

City of Wichita Arkansas River Public Art Project (International)
This open call seeks projects for three permanent, public works along the Arkansas Riverfront. Totaling $592,000, the project is looking for works that are interactive or change over time.
Deadline: October 4, 2024.

Gen-Art: Exploring Creativity Across the Generations (U.S.)
GEN-ART is a national all-ages open juried exhibition inviting artists to submit up to three works as a personal representation of their generation. This open call welcomes all mediums and styles, including sculpture, installation, digital, and literature. There is a $30 application fee.
Deadline: October 4, 2024.

The Bennett Prize (International)
Women figurative realist painters are eligible for this prize, which offers one winner $50,000 and a solo show, with an additional finalist receiving $10,000. There is a $40 application fee.
Deadline: October 4, 2024.

Passepartout Photo Prize (International)
Open to any style, process, or subject matter, this annual prize offers €500, an exhibition in Rome, and a publication. Enter before June 10, 2024, for the early fee of €20.
Deadline: October 7, 2024.

Marilyn Newmark Memorial Grant (International)
This $5,000 prize is for an artist specializing in animal sculpture with a mature body of work.
Deadline: October 7, 2024.

2025 Black Creativity Juried Art Exhibition (U.S.)
The Griffin Museum of Science and Industry is open to submissions from emerging and established Black artists for its annual exhibition. One artist will receive $4,000, with second place awarded $2,750 and third $1,500. There is a $10 submission fee.
Deadline: 11:59 p.m. CST on October 13, 2024.

Science Gallery Melbourne Open Call: EMERGENCE(Y) (International)
This open call seeks installations and research projects for a group exhibition centered around a world indelibly impacted by the climate crisis. Budgets should exceed no more than $8,000 AUD, including all fees, materials, freight, and other project costs.
Deadline: 8:59 p.m. ET on October 27, 2024.

Loewe Foundation Craft Prize (International)
This annual prize recognizes artisans who set new standards for the future of craft. One winner will receive €50,000, and shortlisted and winning works will be shown in a 2025 exhibition and accompanying catalog.
Deadline: October 30, 2024.

Artadia Awards (Houston)
Three visual artists will receive unrestricted funds of $15,000, and one artist will receive the Marciano Artadia Award of $25,000. Honorariums will also be provided to finalists.
Deadline: November 1, 2024.

The Wildlife Photographer of the Year 61 (International)
Winners of the 61st annual competition will be shown in an exhibition launching at the Natural History Museum, London, in October 2025. There is a £30 entry fee, which increases to £35 in the last week of the submission period.
Opens: October 14. Deadline: 11:30 a.m. GMT on December 5, 2024.

Alexander Rutsch Award and Exhibition for Painting (International)
Open to artists 19 and older, this award offers one artist $7,500, a solo exhibition, and a printed catalog at Pelham Art Center. $2,500 is divided among the finalists, and there is a $25 application fee.
Deadline: December 15, 2024.

NSMA International Painting Competition (International)
Open to professionals and students, this competition focuses on contemporary realism in painting, and all subject matter is welcome. One winner will receive $25,000, and finalists will be exhibited at the New Salem Museum and Academy of Fine Art.
Deadline: 11:59 p.m. EST on January 15, 2025.

Sony World Photography Awards 2025 (International)
Open to photographers worldwide shooting on any device, this contest includes top prizes of $25,000, a solo exhibition in London, Sony digital imaging equipment, press and media coverage, and more.
Deadline: January 10, 2025.

 

Grants

Rauschenberg Emergency Grants (U.S.)
These grants of up to $5,000 support direct dental, medical, or mental health-related treatment expenses. Artists working in the visual arts, film, video, electronic, digital arts, and choreography are eligible.
Deadline: 5 p.m. ET on October 1, 2024.

Craft Research Fund Grant (U.S.)
This annual grant awards up to $15,000  to encourage, expand, and support craft research in the United States
Deadline: October 4, 2024.

VIA Art Fund Artistic Production Grant (International)
This grant awards individual artists, nonprofit organizations, and institutions between $25,000 and $100,000 to commission works outside museum or gallery walls, within the public realm, or in nontraditional exhibition environments. Projects must have a confirmed exhibition venue.
Deadline: November 4, 2024.

The Adolf and Esther Gottlieb Emergency Grant (International)
The Adolph and Esther Gottlieb Emergency Grant program provides one-time interim financial assistance to qualified painters, printmakers, and sculptors whose needs resulted from an unforeseen catastrophic incident and who lack the resources to meet that situation. Awardees typically receive $5,000, up to $15,000.
Deadline: Rolling.

Adobe Creative Residency Community Fund (Ukraine)
Adobe’s Creative Residency Community Fund commissions visual artists to create company projects on a rolling basis. Awardees will receive between $500 and $5,000.
Deadline: Rolling.

Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant (International)
The foundation welcomes applications from actively exhibiting visual artists who are painters, sculptors, and artists who work on paper, including printmakers. Grants are intended for one year and range up to $50,000. The artist’s circumstances determine the size of the grant, and professional exhibition history will be considered.
Deadline: Rolling.

 

Residencies, Fellowships, & More

Art Omi Residencies (International)
Artists, architects, and writers are eligible to apply for an Art Omi residency. Lodging and meals are provided, and there are some fellowship opportunities available.
Deadline: 11:59 p.m. EST on October 15, 2024.

Squeaky Wheel Workspace Residency (U.S.)
This residency supports filmmakers, writers, critics, curators, artists, and other practitioners working in media arts. Residents receive a $900 stipend, up to $300 in artist fees, $400 in travel, accommodations, studio space, and an optional $900 financial assistance for disability or childcare.
Deadline: October 25, 2024.

The Morgan’s Artist in Residence (AiR) Program (International)
Emerging and established artists working in papermaking, book arts, and printing are invited to apply for this residency. Artists receive a stipend, access to facilities, and teaching opportunities.
Deadline: 11:59 p.m. EST on October 31, 2024.

2025 Museum of Glass Visiting Artist (International)
A Visiting Artist Residency in the Hot Shop allows artists to explore new ideas and techniques or push the boundaries of a current series. Applicants may typically work in any medium.
Deadline: Midnight PT on November 2, 2024.

The Bray Artist Residencies (International)
Through summer and long-term studio experiences, this program offers the opportunity to work within a community of global artists actively creating new work.
Deadline: December 19, 2024.
